STATEMENT OF PRIVACY

This Web site is the responsibility of Northwestern University Settlement House (“NUSH”).  The following policies apply to www.nush.org.  NUSH can be contacted by mail at 1400 Augusta Blvd., Chicago, IL  60622, by phone at 773 278-7471, or by e-mail at vdelong@nush.org.  This Statement of Privacy governs data collection and usage on this site. By using this Web site, you consent to the data practices described in this statement.
Collection of your Personal Information

NUSH collects and/or tracks personally identifiable information that you voluntarily provide, such as your e-mail address, name, home or work address or telephone number. NUSH also collects and/or tracks user-specific information on what pages visitors access and anonymous demographic information, which is not unique to you, such as your ZIP code, age, gender, preferences, interests and favorites.  Through surveys, NUSH also collects information which is not personally identifiable but is aggregated for research and analysis purposes.  The information NUSH collects by survey includes information about charitable donations, NUSH events and programs, factors affecting decisions to donate, income, educational level, gender, age, race and marital status.

There is also information about your computer hardware and software that is automatically collected by NUSH. This information can include: your IP address, browser type, domain names, access times and referring Web site addresses. This information is used by NUSH for the operation of the service, to maintain quality of the service, and to provide general statistics regarding use of the NUSH Web site.

Please keep in mind that if you directly disclose personally identifiable information or personally sensitive data through NUSH public message boards, this information may be collected and used by others. Note: NUSH does not read any of your private online communications.

NUSH encourages you to review the privacy statements of Web sites you choose to link to from NUSH so that you can understand how those Web sites collect, use and share your information. NUSH is not responsible for the privacy statements or other content on Web sites outside of the NUSH site.

Use of your Personal Information

NUSH collects and uses your personal information to operate the NUSH Web site and deliver the services you have requested. NUSH also uses your personally identifiable information for content improvement, editorial and feedback purposes and to inform you of other products or services available from NUSH and its affiliates. NUSH may also contact you via surveys to conduct research about your opinion of current services, programs or events or of potential new services, programs or events that may be offered.

NUSH does not sell, rent or lease its customer lists to third parties. NUSH may, from time to time, allow its partners, contractors, agents or suppliers to use your information to contact you about services, programs and events.  In addition, NUSH may also contact you on behalf of external business partners about a particular offering that may be of interest to you.  In addition, NUSH may share data with partners, contractors, agents or suppliers to help us perform statistical analysis, send you email or postal mail, provide customer support, or provide services, events and programs. All such third parties are prohibited from using your personal information except to provide these services to NUSH or to send you information about services, programs and events, and they are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information.

NUSH does not use or disclose sensitive personal information, such as race, religion, or political affiliations, without your written consent.

NUSH keeps track of the Web sites and pages our customers visit within the site, in order to determine what NUSH services are the most popular. This data is used to deliver customized content within NUSH to users whose behavior indicates that they are interested in a particular subject area.

NUSH will disclose your personal information, without notice, only if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on NUSH or the site; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of NUSH; or, (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of the NUSH site, or the public.

Use of Cookies

The NUSH Web site uses "cookies" to help personalize your online experience. A cookie is a text file that is placed on your hard disk by a Web page server. Cookies cannot be used to run programs or deliver viruses to your computer. Cookies are uniquely assigned to you, and can only be read by a web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you.

One of the primary purposes of cookies is to provide a convenience feature to save you time. The purpose of a cookie is to tell the Web server that you have returned to a specific page. For example, if you personalize NUSH pages, or register with the NUSH site or services, a cookie helps NUSH to recall your specific information on subsequent visits.  This simplifies the process of recording your personal information, such as billing addresses, shipping addresses, and so on. When you return to the NUSH Web site, the information you previously provided can be retrieved, so you can easily use the NUSH features that you customized.

You have the ability to accept or decline cookies. Most Web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer. If you choose to decline cookies, you may not be able to fully experience the interactive features of the NUSH services or site.

Security of your Personal Information

NUSH takes steps to secure your personal information from unauthorized access, use or disclosure. For instance, NUSH secures the personally identifiable information you provide on computer servers in a controlled, secure environment to prevent unauthorized access, use or disclosure.  When personal information (such as a credit card number) is transmitted to other Web sites, it is protected through the use of encryption, such as the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol.

Opt Out

You may opt out of having your personal information collected by NUSH, used by NUSH for secondary purposes, disclosed to third parties or used by NUSH or third parties by contacting NUSH.

Access to and Ability to Correct Personal Data

Upon request via postal mail, e-mail, or phone, NUSH will provide to users a summary of any personally identifiable information retained by NUSH regarding the user.  Users may modify, correct, change, or update their personal record or cause their personal record to be removed from NUSH's database.  NUSH will only send personal records to the e-mail address on file for the user name associated with it.

Collection of Personal Data from Children

This site is not intended for or marketed to persons under the age of 18. NUSH does not collect or post information from children under the age of 13 (“children”).  In the event that NUSH did collect or post information from children, it would not do so without their parent's or guardian's consent. NUSH does not and will not provide any personally identifying information collected from children, regardless of its source, to any third party for any purpose whatsoever.

Changes to this Statement

NUSH will occasionally update this Statement of Privacy to reflect company and customer feedback. NUSH encourages you to periodically review this Statement to be informed of how NUSH is protecting your information.  NUSH reserves the right to contact you regarding the Statement of Privacy, or any other policies or agreements relevant to site visitors.
