The Settlement was founded in 1891, incorporated in the State of Illinois
in December 1898, and designated an IRS 501(c) 3 organization in January
1947. Our fiscal year runs from July 1 through June 30. Annual
audits are conducted for the Settlement by Caldwell, Coren & Company,

The Settlement spends approximately 90% of all revenue on direct programming, with 10% set aside for Administration and Development. The majority of Settlement funding comes from government contracts (40%),
private contributions (30%), facilities rental and service income (25%), program fees (4%),
and United Way (1%). There are currently two endowments, one to
support the Settlement and one to support the Vittum Theater. The Settlement's
assets total roughly $11 million.
